Venue

We offer the Four Shields of Leadership programs at a variety of locations throughout the western United States and beyond. Usually our programs are run at small retreat centers that provide comfortable indoor accommodations in conjunction with easy access to nature. At some locations, camping is also an option. Occasionally a program will take place at a camping-only venue. In any case, three nutritious and delicious meals (including snacks) are provided each day. We do our best to accommodate all food allergies and dietary restrictions.

Wherever the specific location, there are several important criteria we look for in all of our retreat settings.

• Provide easy access to abundant wild land, preferably with no neighbors or roads to "bump in to"
• Are located within a few hours drive of a major metropolitan airport
• Do not offer distracting amenities, such as TV, Internet access, etc.
• Will likely be comfortable weather-wise, for the time of year and elevation
• Are small enough so we can have the entire place to ourselves

Right now, our 2010 programs are scheduled for various locations in Washington and Arizona. We are also looking at possible future retreats in California and the New England area, in 2011 or beyond. If you want additional information on a specific venue, please go to Venues.

Because each venue has its own cost, the total cost of any particular program may vary depending on where it's taking place.  In addition, programs run through the School of Lost Borders are available on a sliding scale basis. Total cost will include the program fee plus an accommodation fee that covers lodging and all meals. Retreat center accommodations may include single-occupancy and/or double-occupancy options.

Transportation to and from a retreat is not provided and travel costs are not included. However, if you would like to carpool, we may be able to connect you with other participants in your area.

To determine the total cost for a specific program, go to Events and click on the program that interests you. There you will find detailed cost information specific to that location and date. We usually offer an early registration discount that can reduce your out-of-pocket expense.

Organizer's Discount for Hosting a Program in Your Local Area 

If you are interested in attending either a retreat or an intensive in your area, contact us and we can explore what it would take to make that happen. If there are enough interested people in your local area, we would be happy to schedule a program.
